My Cookniche Address

As soon as you become a member and you set up your account, an Internet address will be assigned to your account. The address is cookniche.com/username where "username" is your own user name. For more information, refer to Account Details.

Open your page and add the address to your browser bookmarks. If you are using a mobile device then add an address shortcut to your home screen. How to add a shortcut to your device home screen depends on which browser you are using. Consult your browser settings.

Browsing

Cookniche Links Menu

The Cookniche links menu Menu links  is located next to the Cookniche logo on the upper left corner. This is where you can open pages with posts published by Cookniche members. Those pages are public. However, only members can like and/or comment on posts.

If you want to read posts of one particular member, refer to the "Member's Links Menu".  

The pages that you can open from the Cookniche links menu are the following:

  • FEATURED contains a list of featured posts that Cookniche team chooses from recently published posts.
  • PHOTOS contains a list of featured photos published by members.
  • RECIPES contains a list of featured recipes published by members. To view the recipe categories (Dish Types, Meal Types and Occasions), click the RECIPES title on the RECIPES page. A sub-menu with all the categories will slide down. Click a sub-category to view its related recipes.
  • BLOGS contains a list of featured blogs published by members.

Member's Links Menu

To open the page of a member, you can do one of the following:

  • Click the member's small round photo or the member's username (wherever you see them on a page).
  • If you know the member's username, you can open the member's Internet address directly. Each member has a simple and unique URL address (cookniche.com/username).

Once you open a member's page, click the links menu Menu links located on the right, next to the member's name. For bigger screens such as desktops, some links are also displayed next to the member's name on the right.

Most links, except for "FOLLOWING", "BLOCK USER" and "SETTINGS" are public.  However, only members can like or comment on posts.

The pages that you can open from the member's links menu are the following:

  • RECENT contains  a list of recent posts published by the member.
  • PHOTOS contains  a list of photos published by the member.
  • RECIPES contains a list of recipes published by the member. To view the recipe categories (Dish Types, Meal Types and Occasions), click the RECIPES title on the member's RECIPES page, under the profile photo on the left. A sub-menu with all the categories that belong to that member will slide down. Click a sub-category to view its related recipes.
  • BLOGS contains a list of blog posts published by the member.
  • WHO I AM contains an introduction about the member.
  • FOLLOWING contains a list of usernames that the member is following.
  • BLOCK USER. To block the member click this link. Only members can block other members.
  • Social media icons. By clicking any of the social media icons you will open the selected social medium page associated with the member.
  • SETTINGS. All the links listed under SETTINGS are connected to your own account settings:

Hashtags

Hashtags are displayed with the hash character # at the beginning of a word. Members can use hashtags to make it easier for other members and the public to find posts with a specific theme such as #romanticdinner.

Clicking a hashtag will open a page with posts that contain that hashtag. 

Search for content

To search for content, refer to the Search Function described below.


How to become a member

Option 1 - Registration with Cookniche

  1. Click Register to open the "Create a New Account" form.
  2. Give your email address and password. Make sure to provide a correct email address.
  3. Confirm your password.
  4. Click the "Register" button.
  5. If your registration is processed without errors, you will receive an email message (Cookniche Account Confirmation) from Cookniche. Click the link in the email message to confirm your email address.
  6. Log in to set up your account.

Option 2- Registration with Facebook, Google or Twitter

If you register on Cookniche with Facebook, Google or Twitter then you don't need to provide any Cookniche password when you log in. You only click the button of the social medium that you had registered with and you'll be authenticated automatically.  

  1. Open the Login page.
  2. At the bottom of the page, under "Register a New Account" click the button of the social medium (Google, Facebook or Twitter) that you want to register with. You'll be redirected to the login page of that social medium.
  3. Follow the instructions of that page to log in.
  4. As soon as your login is authenticated by that social medium, you'll be redirected back to Cookniche.
  5. Enter your email, and finally click the "Register" button to start setting up your account.

Set up your Account

When you log in for the first time you'll be asked to set up the following:

  1. Account Details.
  2. Profile Photo.
  3. Languages & Services.
  4. Background Photo.

Account Details

On the "Account Details" page, you find the following information:
  1. Your Cookniche Internet Address.
  2. First Name.
  3. Family Name.
  4. User Name.
  5. Sex.
  6. Page Category.
  7. Date of Birth.
  8. Address.
  9. Social Media Accounts

To set up or make changes to your details:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Account Details page.
  3. Follow instructions on the page.

Profile Photo

On the "Profile Photo" page you can upload or change your profile photo that other members will see when they visit your Cookniche pages. Please note the following:

  1. You can't have more than 12 profile photos in your account. Delete old photos if you want to upload new ones.
  2. You can upload photos up to 5Mb in size and with the file extensions jpg, jpeg, gif and tiff only.

To upload or change your profile photo:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Profile Photo page.
  3. Follow instructions on the page.

Languages & Services

On the Languages & Services page you can do the following:

  1. Choose your preferred language for the Cookniche user interface. The available languages are: Arabic, French, English and Swedish. More languages will be added later.
  2. Choose whether you want to see content of your preferred language only or of all languages when browsing.
  3. Choose the services that you want to use. The available services are PHOTOS, BLOG and RECIPES.

To set up or make changes to your languages and services: 

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Languages & Services page.
  3. Follow instructions on the page.

Background Photo

On the "Background Photo" page you can choose the photo that you want to display at the back of your Cookniche pages. New background photos are published regularly.

To set up or change your background photo: 

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Background Photo page.
  3. Follow instructions on the page.

Photos

To add, edit or delete a photo you must be logged in first. You can upload photos up to 5Mb in size and with the file extensions jpg, jpeg, gif and tiff only.

Publish a photo

You can publish a photo either from your device album or take a new one with your device camera (in case your mobile device is equipped with a camera).

  1. Click the new photo icon Publish a photo located at the bottom of your screen. If the icon is not visible then go to your Languages & Services page and make sure than the checkbox next to PHOTOS is checked.
  2. Select from your device the photo that you want to publish or take a new one. Follow the instructions of your device to submit a photo.
  3. Give a short description of your photo.
  4. If you are publishing a photo from a recipe or a blog page, then you'll be asked whether you want to "Make photo visible on my public photo album". If you check this checkbox, then your photo will be visible on your PHOTOS page as well. Else, if you keep this checkbox unchecked then your photo will only be visible on the recipe or the blog page.
  5. Click the submit icon OK to publish your photo, or cancel Cancel to cancel the operation.

Share a photo on Facebook or Twitter

You can share any photo even if you are not a member.

  1. Click a photo to open its details window.
  2. Click the links menu icon New photo icon under the photo that you want to share.
  3. Click the icon of the social medium (Facebook Facebook or Twitter Twitter) where you want the photo to be shared.
  4. Follow the instructions on the social medium popup screen to share the photo.

Edit your photo description

You can edit the descriptions of your own photos only.

  1. Open your RECENT or PHOTOS page.
  2. Click a photo to open its details window.
  3. Click the links menu icon Menu links under the photo that you want to edit.
  4. Click "Edit Caption".
  5. Make your changes in the text field.
  6. If you want to keep your photo private then uncheck the checkbox above or next to the description text field.
  7. Click the submit icon OK.

Delete a photo

  1. Open your RECENT or PHOTOS page.
  2. Click a photo to open its details window.
  3. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the photo that you want to delete.
  4. Click "Delete".
  5. Click "OK" to confirm that you want to delete your photo, or "Cancel" to cancel the operation.

View my private photos

Private photos are not listed among your other photos or recent posts but private photos can be used in recipes and blogs. To make a photo private, refer to the "Publish a photo" section.

To view private photos:

  1. Open the PHOTOS page.
  2. Click the "PHOTOS" title, located under your big profile photo on the left.
  3. Click "Private photos" on the drop-down menu that slides down.
  4. Your private photos will be displayed.

To switch back to your public photos:

  1. Click the "PHOTOS" title again.
  2. Click "Published photos" on the drop-down menu that slides down.
  3. Your published photos will be displayed.

Report inappropriate photos

(Only members with special priviledges can report photos).

  1. Click a photo to open its details window.
  2. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the photo that you want to report.
  3. Click "Inappropriate".
  4. Click "OK" to confirm that you want to report the photo, or "Cancel" to cancel the operation.

Recipes

To add, edit or delete a recipe you must be logged in first.

Add a new recipe

  1. Click the new recipe icon New recipe located at the bottom of your screen. If the icon is not visible then go to your Languages & Services page and make sure than the checkbox next to RECIPES is checked.
  2. Choose recipe language: make sure to select the correct language for your recipe.
  3. Recipe Title: Give a short and meaningful title for your recipe.
  4. Main Photo:
    1. Click inside this field to open your album.
    2. Click the photo that you want to associate with this recipe. Your album will close automatically as soon as you click a photo.
    3. If the photo that you want to associate with your recipe is on your device but not in your Cookniche album then you can upload it by following the steps described in "Publish a photo". After you had published a photo, start from step 1 (Main Photo).
  5. Video Link: You can embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo only. To do so:
    1. Copy the video link (from YouTube or Vimeo websites) and paste it in the video link field.  The video will be automatically added to your recipe page. The link should look something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLj4L4PWsrc or https://vimeo.com/141694246
  6. Recipe Summary: Give a short summary about your recipe. Here you can add #hashtags.
  7. Meal Type: Click the drop-down list to view and select a recipe meal type.
  8. Recipe Origin: Click the drop-down list to view and select the recipe country of origin. Choose "None" if not applicable.
  9. Occasion: Click the drop-down list to view and select the recipe occasion. Choose "None" if not applicable.
  10. Preparation Time: Give the amount of time (in numbers) that the recipe would take to prepare, and then click the drop-down list to view and select the time category (days, hours or minutes).
  11. Quantity: Give the quantity (in numbers), and then click the drop-down list to view and select the quantity category (loaf(s), piece(s) or serving(s)).
  12. Ingredients: Give all the ingredients that the recipe requires.
  13. Preparation: Give the preparation steps. Be short and concise. To add photos to your text:

    1. Click the cursor at the position where you want to insert a photo in the text.
    2. Click the photo icon Photo located on the toolbar of the text editor (first icon from the left, next to the B icon). Your photo album will open. Click the photo that you want to insert in the text. Your album will close automatically as soon as you click a photo. If you want to add more photos, repeat from step 1.
    3. If the photo that you want to insert in the text is on your device but not in your Cookniche album then you can upload it by following the steps described in "Publish a photo". After you had published a photo, start from step 1 (Preparation).
    4. To remove a photo from the text, click to mark it and then press the back button. The photo will be removed.
  14. Tips: Give any tips to succeed in preparing the recipe.
  15. Click the "Save" button to save your recipe and go to the next page.
  16. Dish type: Click the drop-down list to view and select a recipe dish type. Click the submit icon OK to add the selected dish type. You can add up to 3 dish types for each recipe.
  17. Publish this recipe:
    • if your recipe is ready to be published, then check the "Publish this recipe" checkbox. The recipe will be visible to all members once you save it.
    • Else, if you want to save the recipe and finish it later, then make sure to keep the checkbox unchecked. The recipe will be visible to you only on your private recipes page.
  18. Click the "Save" button to save your recipe.

Share a recipe on Facebook or Twitter

You can share any recipe even if you are not a member.

  1. Click a recipe to open its details window.
  2. Click the links menu icon Menu links under the recipe photo that you want to share.
  3. Click the icon of the social medium (Facebook Facebook or Twitter Twitter) where you want the recipe to be shared.
  4. Follow the instructions on the social medium popup screen to share the recipe.

Edit a recipe

You can edit your own recipes only.

  1. Open your RECENT or RECIPES page.
  2. Click a recipe to open its details window.
  3. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the recipe that you want to edit.
  4. Click "Edit recipe".
  5. Make your changes. For more information, refer to Add a new recipe (from step 2).
  6. Click the "Save" button to save your recipe.

Delete a recipe

  1. Open your RECENT or RECIPES page.
  2. Click a recipe to open its details window.
  3. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the recipe that you want to edit.
  4. Click "Delete".
  5. Click "OK" to confirm that you want to delete your recipe, or "Cancel" to cancel the operation.

View my private recipes

  • You can choose to make a recipe private in case the recipe is not ready to be published, and you want to save it to finish it later.
  • Private recipes are not listed among other recipes or recent posts and they can't be viewed by other members.
  • To make a recipe private, refer to the "Edit a recipe" or "Add a new recipe" section.

To view private recipes:

  1. Open your RECIPES page.
  2. Click the "RECIPES" title, located under your profile photo on the left.
  3. Click "Private Recipes" on the drop-down menu that slides down.
  4. Your private recipes will be displayed.

To switch back to your public recipes:

  1. Click the "RECIPES" title again.
  2. Click "Published recipes" on the drop-down menu that slides down.
  3. Your published recipes will be displayed.

Blogs

  2. Choose blog language: make sure to select the correct language for your blog post.
  3. Blog Title: Give a short and meaningful title for your blog post.
  4. Blog Summary: Give a short summary about your blog post. Here you can add #hashtags.
  5. Main Photo:
    1. Click inside this field to open your album.
    2. Click the photo that you want to associate with the post. Your album will close automatically as soon as you click a photo.
    3. If the photo that you want to associate with your post is on your device but not in your Cookniche album then you can upload it by following the steps described in "Publish a photo".
    4. After that you had published a photo, start from step 1 (Main Photo).
  6. Video Link: You can embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo only. To do so:

  7. Text: Write your text. To add photos to your text:

  8. Publish this post:
    1. if your post is ready to be published, then check the "Publish this post" checkbox. The blog post will be visible to all members once you save it.
    2. Else, if you want to save the post and finish it later, then make sure to keep the checkbox unchecked. The post will be visible to you only on your private blog posts page.
  9. Click the "Save" button to save your post.

Share a blog on Facebook or Twitter

You can share any blog even if you are not a member.

  1. Click a blog to open its details window.
  2. Click the links menu icon Menu links under the blog post that you want to share.
  3. Click the icon of the social medium (Facebook Facebook or Twitter Twitter) where you want the blog to be shared.
  4. Follow the instructions on the social medium popup screen to share the blog.

Edit a blog post

You can edit your own blog posts only.

  1. Open your RECENT or BLOG page.
  2. Click a blog post to open its details window.
  3. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the blog post that you want to edit.
  4. Click "Edit post".
  5. Make your changes. For more information, refer to Add a new blog post (from step 2).
  6. Click the "Save" button to save your post.

Delete a blog post

  1. Open your RECENT or BLOG page.
  2. Click a blog post to open its details window.
  3. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the blog post that you want to delete.
  4. Click "Delete".
  5. Click "OK" to confirm that you want to delete your blog, or "Cancel" to cancel the operation.

View my private blog posts

  • You can choose to make a blog post private in case the post is not ready to be published, and you want to save it to finish it later.
  • Private blog posts are not listed among other posts or recent posts and they can't be viewed by other members.
  • To make a blog post private, refer to the "Edit a blog post" or "Add a new blog post" section.

To view private blog posts:

  1. Open your BLOG page.
  2. Click the "BLOG" title, located under your profile photo on the left.
  3. Click "Private blog posts" on the drop-down menu that slides down.
  4. Your private blog posts will be displayed.

To switch back to your public blog posts:

  1. Click the "BLOG" title again.
  2. Click "Published posts" on the drop-down menu that slides down.
  3. Your published blog posts will be displayed.

Report inappropriate blogs

(Only members with special priviledges can report blogs).

  1. Click a blog to open its details window.
  2. Click the menu links icon Menu links under the blog post that you want to report.
  3. Click "Inappropriate".
  4. Click "OK" to confirm that you want to report the blog, or "Cancel" to cancel the operation.

Members

You can create your own group of favorites. The advantage of creating a group of favorite members is as follows:

  1. You can view the recent posts of your favorites in one place, instead of opening each member's page separately. To view the recent posts of your favorites, click the group icon Favorites located on the upper right corner, next to your photo.
  2. You will get a notification (small green cirlce) next to the group icon with the number of new posts that have been published by your favorites.

Add a member to your favorites

  1. Open the page of the member whom you want to add to your favorites.
  2. If the member is not already a favorite, one of the following icons would be displayed next to the member's profile photo. The choice of icon depends on whether you are one of the member's favorites or not.


    Favorites
    No connections between you both yet. Click icon to add member to your favorites.

    Favorites
    You are one of the member's favorites. Click icon to add member to your favorites.

Remove a member from your favorites

  1. Open the page of the member whom you want to remove from your favorites.
  2. If the member is a favorite, one of the following icons would be displayed next to the member's profile photo. The choice of icon depends on whether you are one of the member's favorites or not.

    Favorites
    The member is a favorite and vice versa. Click icon to remove member from your favorites.

    Favorites
    The member is a favorite but Not vice versa. Click icon to remove member from your favorites.

Block a member

A blocked member can't comment on any of your posts and the member's previous comments and notifications will be removed from your account.

  1. Open the page of the member whom you want to block.
  2. Open the member's links menu on the right.
  3. Click the "Block Member" link.
  4. The member will be blocked and this icon Blocked member will be displayed next to the member's profile image.

Unblock a member

As soon as you unblock a member, all the member's previous comments will be added back to your accounts.

  1. Open the page of the member whom you want to unblock.
  2. Open the member's links menu on the right.
  3. Click the "Unblock" link.
  4. The member will be unblocked.

Search Function

Cookniche is equipped with an advanced search system that allows you to search either the entire content or a part of it, such as a specific member, photos, recipes, blogs and/or your preferred language.

Search all services or specific ones

  1. Click the search icon Search located on the upper right corner to open the search window.
  2. Type the word(s) you want to search for. You can also search for hashtags (#).
  3. If you want to search in all the services, then keep "ALL" selected. Else select the service that you want to search (PHOTOS, RECIPES or BLOGS).
  4. If you want the search result to return content of your preferred language only, then select "My language only". Else keep this checkbox unchecked.
  5. Click the submit button Search .

Search the content of a specific member

  1. Open the member's page.
  2. Click the search icon Search located on the upper right corner to open the search window.
  3. Select "This member only" at the bottom of the search window.
  4. For the other options refer to the previous section (Search all services or specific ones).

Login Credentials

Change Password

To change your password:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Change Password page.
  3. Fill-in the form fields.
  4. Click the "Change Password" button.

Social Media Logins

On the Social Media Logins page you can add external social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter and Google, to log in automatically without providing your Cookniche credentials.

To add external social media logins:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Social Media Logins page.
  3. Click the button of the social medium to which you want to associate your Cookniche logins.

To remove external social media logins:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Social Media Logins page.
  3. click the "Remove" button next to the social medium of which you want to remove from your logins.

Login with security codes

Cookniche is equipped with an extra secure login system. This system requires that you provide a new security code at each time you want to log in. The new security code is sent to you by email. This extra security system is disabled by default.

To enable the system:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Login Credentials page.
  3. Click the "Enable" button under the "Login with security codes is disabled" section.

To disable the system:

  1. Log in.
  2. Open the Login Credentials page.
  3. Click the "Disable" button under the "Login with security codes is enabled" section.

Forgot your password

  1. Open the login page.
  2. Click "Forgot Password?" next to the "Log in" button.
  3. Give the email address associated with your Cookniche account, and then click the "Send" button. An email message with instructions on how to reset your password will be sent to you.
  4. Click the link in the email message. You'll be redirected to the "Reset Password" page.
  5. Give your email address and a new password. Confirm the new password.
  6. Click the "Reset" button. Your password will be reset and you'll be able to log in with your new password.

Cookies

Kindly note that we use cookies on Cookiche to remember stateful public information, such as your name, profile photo, background photo etc. We don't use cookies to store any private information about you or your computer.

An HTTP cookie (also called browser cookie), is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user's web browser while the user is browsing that website. Every time the user loads the website, the browser sends the cookie back to the server to notify the website of the user's previous activity.
